    Situated at the entrance of Sauk County, the area serves as a gateway to the lower Wisconsin River Valley and Baraboo Bluffs.  We are minutes away from Madison (Wisconsin's state capital), Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park and major highway systems that will take you to other Wisconsin destinations. 

     

    The Sauk Prairie villages and Merrimac have their own vibrant economies.  The business community is fortunate to have access to a growing workforce with a strong work ethic. The area is also home to a number of family-owned businesses, from manufacturing to agriculture to retail and restaurants. The community is home to a wide variety of architectural styles and offers many parks and activities. With our close proximity to Madison and breathtaking natural amenities, home values remain high and the living is comfortable.

     

    Recognized as one of the region's best-kept secrets, the Sauk Prairie School District encompasses a 240 square-mile service area, which includes the three villages of Merrimac, Prairie du Sac, Sauk City, and all or part of 13 towns. Sauk Prairie High School was recently ranked #11 among all high schools in Wisconsin by US News & World Report. The Sauk Prairie school district has performed above state averages on Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction score cards.

     

    Quality of life in the Sauk Prairie Riverway is supported by a variety of things to do.  With boat launches on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin, plus entrance to the south end of Devil's Lake State Park, we can keep you busy.  For winter enthusiasts, Devil's Head Resort is located in Merrimac with one of the highest peaks in Wisconsin.  For history buffs, Sauk City is the oldest incorporated village in Wisconsin. The Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society at Tripp Memorial Museum can provide a wealth of historical information, or take a walking tour through the Sauk City Historic Park.
