Come join us in celebrating Augie's 108th Birthday! We will have Jerry Apps presenting.
Jerry Apps knew August Derleth, he took one of Augie's fiction writing classes at the School of the Arts in Rhinelander in 1968. Derleth had reviewed Jerry's first book he wrote, "The Land Still Lives", which was published in 1970 by Robert Gard's Wisconsin House. Gard and Derleth were good friends, and Jerry was fortunate to have Bob Gard as his writing mentor.
A month after Derleth's death, in 1971, Jerry began teaching creative writing at the School of the Arts in Rhinelander and taught there for 32 years. He still teaches creative writing, now mostly at The Clearing in Door County, where he taught for 27 years.
Visit Jerry Apps website for list of books he had written and tune in his hour-long documentary with Wisconsin Public TV will air on March 8 at 7:00 p.m.
