Kick off February with a tasty treat at the Dorf Haus Bavarian-style supper club near Sauk City, when the Maier family serves up their popular smorgasbord, February 3. The all-you-can eat smorgasbord, which has earned newspaper reader polls for best buffet, draws 250 to 350 fans from a 60 mile radius and beyond to the hamlet Roxbury, near Sauk City, according to Rebecca Maier-Frey, co-manager of the family-owned supper club.
The Bavarian Smorgasbord, served from 5 p.m.-9 p.m., includes Knackwurst, Schweinsrippen, Sauerbraten, Wiener Schnitzel, Pork Schnitzel, Hocks, Spatzle, Kartoffel, Nudeln, Kraut and other rotating German specialties, plus salad bar and desserts. The cost is $18.95 for adults, $5.50 for children 5-12, and $3 for four years old and under.
Buttons & Banjo plays polkas and more from 5:15-8:30 p.m. at each smorgasbord, held the first Mondays of each month year round, and adds the third Monday of each month in June, July and August.
The Dorf Haus is a second generation family-owned restaurant and banquet facility, noted for German and American food. The Dorf Haus, celebrating 60 years, continually earns reader poll awards for best fish fry, Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned, supper club, buffet and more. The Monday night Smorgasbord has been a tradition for 39 years.
