  • Volunteer Tutors Needed - Adult Learners

    Posted: 09/22/2024

The mission of the Sauk Prairie Area Literacy Council (SPALC) is to empower people of all backgrounds in the Sauk Prairie Area to successfully navigate the English language at home, on the job and in their community. We accomplish our mission by matching tutors with adult learners who have reached out to us expressing interest in improving their English language skills. SPALC provides tutor training, teaching materials and ongoing support at no cost to the tutor and no cost to the learner. No prior teaching experience is required, and you do not need to speak another language to be a SPALC tutor. If you are looking for a way to get involved in the Sauk Prairie community in a meaningful way and help another individual meet his/her literacy goals, we would love to hear from you! Tutors often say that being a volunteer tutor has enriched their own lives in a variety of ways. The typical tutor time commitment is 1-2 hours per week. Tutors meet with learners in public spaces such as the library or coffee shop, or in some cases if technology is available, virtual classes may also be an option. Contact us today and let us answer any questions you may have, or help get you started on your training.
